Frequently Asked Questions

1 / Where is YWAM Kristiansand located?

YWAM Kristiansand is located south in Norway on the beautiful island Flekkerøy, just outside the city of Kristiansand.

Find us on Google Maps here.

2 / What is a Discipleship Training School?

DTS is a six month program blending classroom learning, small group activities, personal reflection, practical service, and community living.

Most often, the training comes in two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase.

3 / Can you be sent out as a missionary from YWAM Kristiansand?

YES! We have over 30 long term missionaries sent out from Skjærgårdsheimen. If you want to connect with us as a missionary, please contact us.

4 / How are the living arrangements?

As a student and a staff you are welcomed to stay at our beautiful base overlooking the ocean. You will be a part of community living, which means living in fellowship with others on the base. As both staff and student you will share a room with at least one other person.

5 / What do I need to bring for a DTS?

Depending on which school you will be taking, you will receive a packing list in good time before coming so that you’ll know what to bring.

6 / What is the age range on the DTS?

The last years we have had a generational DTS, varying from 18 - 60 years.

7 / Do you have other schools than DTS?

Yes! At YWAM Kristiansand we also have secondary course BELT Bootcamp (read more here). It is not required that you have done a DTS to attend this course.

8 / What is the climate like?

Weather is a big topic for small talk in Norway, as it constantly changes. As Kristiansand is located in the south of Norway, in the summers it is usually warm and sunny. And since we are so close to the ocean, we don’t get the best snowy winters. But luckily we are just a few hours drive from places with good skiing opportunities! On an average the climate can vary from 20 to 30 ºC in the summer, to 0 to -15 ºC in the winter.

 9 / How is the food/eating arrangements?

Sharing meals together is a big part of community living, which means we eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper together. The different meals will be provided, and the kitchen is run by both kitchen staff, as well as staff and students.

If you have dietary restrictions, we do our best to accommodate your needs.
