The teaching
Learning takes place within the setting of lectures, discussions, workshops, small group interaction, and personal study. Biblical counselling skills are modelled throughout the lecture phase and into the outreach.
Topics include:
The Father Heart of God: God is our Father and we are loved by Him. He is the very foundation of love in our lives. We will learn how our relationship with our own father has influenced our relationship with God and how to help others restore their image of God as Father. Forgiveness is a big part of this teaching.
Family systems and patterns: Get a basic understanding of God’s original intention for family and how we have been influenced by family choices and patterns. You will also learn how to make a genogram, going back to your grandparents’ generation. A focus on how shame has affected us will be a part of this teaching.
Identity and self-esteem: Genesis 1:27 says that we have been created in the image of God, both male and female. We will look at who we are as men and women, created in the image of God. We will also look at various personality types and use profile tests to have better understanding of ourselves and others.
Cross-cultural ministry: This is a time to consider the many differences from one culture to another, what can we learn from another culture, and how can we minister to someone with a different cultural background and world view.
Renewing of the mind: This is a very practical skill you will learn and can use in your own life and ministry. Find out what a “Heart Chart” is and how to use it to transform your belief system, knowing more of God’s truth. It is the pathway of bringing what you know to be true in your head into your heart.
Active Listening: Another very practical tool that can be used in ministry and daily life. Learn how to use warmth, empathy, and respect in everyday communication and see how it can help others discover for themselves the solution to their own problems.
The Holy Spirit: As counselors it is important to allow the Holy Spirit to bring revelation of how to minister to another person and it is also important for this person to have personal revelation of their need by the Holy Spirit
Healing at the cross: Isaiah 53 is very descriptive of the healing that is available to us because of what Jesus suffered on our behalf. The healing is for our physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. We will learn how to apply the work of the cross in ministry to others and to our own lives.
The Divine Plumbline teaching and ministry: This is the very backbone of the FCM, where all the other topics has its foundation. We will learn how to build a foundation of salvation in our own life as we expose the “false prophets” and break down walls of rejection and rebellion. As a part of this teaching we will experience and see first hand a ministry model we can use to help others.
